John Campbell, president of Raleigh-based Campbell Alliance, the leading management consulting firm specializing in the pharmaceutical industry, accepted the company’s first Fast 50 award recently at a reception honoring this year’s recipients. The Fast 50 program, sponsored by the Triangle Business Journal and PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, annually recognizes the 50 fastest-growing private companies in the Triangle area of North Carolina.
Mr. Campbell, who founded Campbell Alliance in 1997, is excited about joining the Fast 50, especially at a time when the consulting industry faces a number of serious challenges. “We feel especially proud to be a part of the list this year because we’ve managed to avoid a lot of the difficulties that many other consulting firms have encountered over the past 18 to 24 months. At a time when other consulting firms have experienced revenue contraction or have even had to resort to layoffs, we’ve been able to maintain very solid growth,” Campbell said.
Campbell attributes that solid growth to his company’s focus on the pharmaceutical and biotech sectors. “Our expertise ensures continuing demand,” he explains. ”Even during tough economic times, pharmaceutical and biotech companies need—and see the value in paying for—specialized support to operate effectively in their highly complex competitive and regulatory environments.”
Campbell Alliance’s clients include six of the world’s top ten pharmaceutical companies, as well as a host of emerging and midsize companies. The firm offers strategy development, process improvement, market research, and project management services in a range of functional areas vital to its clients, including Research and Development, Business Development, Managed Care, Brand Management, and Sales.
During 2002, the company’s revenue has grown approximately 100%, and Campbell is confident about the future. “I’m excited about continuing that track record,” he said, adding, ”We’re now serving clients in Europe, we’re working on adding a New Jersey office to better serve our clients in the Northeast and increase penetration of that key region, and we’re exploring some exciting new service offerings. Our growth plans are moving full steam ahead, and we hope to be on the Fast 50 list for a long time to come.”
